She almost scrapped her newsletter last month

I was talking to a coaching client last week who had one of those "What's the point?" moments with her newsletter recently.

You know the kind: where you're looking at your open rates, wondering if you're shouting into the void, and trying to convince yourself that showing up consistently is worth it.

She almost pulled the plug.

But then she got an email that changed her whole outlook.

Someone replied to an issue she nearly didn't send. It wasn't a big reply. Just a short note that said, "I needed this one today."

She told me that message landed like a full-body exhale.

It reminded her that newsletters aren't about perfect metrics. They're about momentum. Trust. Conversations that build over time. They're about helping one person.

So we had a conversation about finding new ways to make it easier, like leaning on AI for structure, and treating her newsletter like a real offer instead of an afterthought.

I wrote about all of that (how to market your newsletter, grow it, maybe even monetize it) in this week's blog post. But more than anything, I hope it reminds you this:

  • You're allowed to keep showing up imperfectly.
  • You're allowed to make it easier.
  • And your voice still matters, even when it feels quiet.

We'll be talking real strategy, mindset shifts, money, boundaries, and the behind-the-scenes truth about what it actually takes to build something sustainable.

I'll be sharing on being "Flexible by Design" and talking about 5 smart strategies to build a sustainable freelance business, alongside a lineup of thoughtful, honest voices who get what it's like to do this solo.

If you've been craving support, clarity, or just a little less isolation in this work, this is for you. Hope to see you there.

Mastering Content Strategy Bootcamp

Join me for a live bootcamp for freelance writers and content professionals who want to understand what strategy actually involves, without the gatekeeping, jargon, or pressure to sell it tomorrow.

Over five days, we'll connect the dots between what you already know and how strategy shows up in client work. We'll talk about what's really included in a content strategy, how it supports business goals, and where your current strengths might already overlap. You'll get guided lessons, daily exercises, and plenty of space to ask the questions you've never had a chance to ask.

If you've been circling the idea of offering strategy but haven't had a chance to slow down and explore what it could look like for you, this is the place.

What We're Loving

True Lemon Drink Mixes

I'm trying to up my water intake, but I get tired of no flavor. But I also don't want to drink a lot of sugar, and can't do all of the sugar substitutes. These have been a lifesaver. I splurged and got a bunch of the flavors to try. My favorites so far: limeade, peach lemonade, lemonade, and wildberry lemonade. The mango lemonade is pretty great too! Check out the True Lemon (affiliate link) drink mixes if you like flavor without a pound of sugar. Let me know what you think of them!

Ice Maker

Because who wants a warm drink when it's already hot out? I'm a huge fan of nugget ice and my ice maker has been a lifesaver. I love iced drinks (coffee, tea, lemonade) and I don't like old ice giving my drink that funky freezer flavor. I can make enough for a couple of days with the Iceman machine I chose, and not have to store a bunch of ice at a time (affiliate link). Could I use trays? Yes. Would the ice be nice a chewable and have that little hole in the middle? No. Don't judge. I waited forever to get this thing and I'll never go back. By the way, it's a must for summer parties.

Wrap Up

Whatever your relationship with your newsletter looks like right now (drafting consistently, sending sporadically, or still deciding what you want it to be), I just want to say: it’s allowed to evolve.

You don’t need perfect systems or thousands of subscribers to make it meaningful. You just need a reason to show up, a process that works for you, and the freedom to keep shaping it as you grow.

You've got this!
