It's Time for a Little Summer Content Cleaning

It's Time for a Little Summer Content Cleaning

It's July! We're halfway through with this year already. How's it going for you? Hit reply and let us know, we'd love to hear from you.

I know a big push for cleaning is typically done in Spring, but I prefer the outside world when the weather is cooler. That means I prefer to do deep cleaning project in the summer so I can take advantage of the air conditioning. It's also when I turn my focus to my cluttered content cupboards.

We thought we'd focus on content for the newsletter this month too. We'll be looking at how you can reach your audience more effectively through your content.

Let’s kick things off with the foundation: making sure your content is up-to-date, accurate, and easy to navigate. Because nothing says “trust me” like a portfolio, blog, or LinkedIn profile that’s current and relevant.

Why does this matter? Outdated content can send the wrong message (think broken links, old stats, or services you no longer offer). A quick audit and refresh can turn forgotten posts into traffic magnets and help you put your best foot forward, whether you’re pitching new clients or nurturing your network.

This week, try this:

  • Review your top 3 most-visited pages or posts. Is everything still accurate? Could you add a recent win or update a call-to-action?
  • Check for broken links and swap in fresh resources.
  • Update your bio or About page with your latest projects or specialties.

Then go read this week's blog post about why you need a full audit and how to do it!

Why You Should Regularly Audit Your Content

Think your content is working hard enough? Think again. This quick read breaks down why regular content audits are one of the smartest, most overlooked ways to boost SEO, increase conversions, and get more mileage from what you’ve already created. If you want to grow without constantly churning out new content, don’t skip this.

Own Your Value Instead of Proving It

Think you need to prove your worth to potential clients? Maybe it's time to flip the script. This article shows why you’re better off owning your value rather than endlessly justifying it. Discover how reframing proposals, positioning your expertise, and setting clear boundaries from the get-go helps you command respect while you're winning clients with confidence.

FREE Discovery Call Workshop!

Discovery calls can be nerve-wracking! Imposter syndrome get you by the throat, the client somehow takes control of the call, and you end up feeling like you didn't make the impression you wanted to. Or even worse, your client is now firmly in charge of your relationship and you've become an employee substitute.

There's a better way. In this workshop I'll share how to onboard clients with confidence and professionalism. Your discovery call will shift from selling yourself to deciding if the client is someone you want to work with.

What We're Loving

Portable Monitor

I'm on my laptop and away from my desk most of the summer. Sometimes I'm working from a lounger under a tree. Other times I'm traveling. The one thing I miss from my desk is having multiple monitors. But I found a solution! I have a portable monitor I bring with me. (affiliate link) This one is small enough to fit in my computer bag, comes with it's own protective case, weighs less than two pounds, and it's big enough to give me an extra screen for my research or other info I need. Sometimes it's the little things that make work easier. And it was under $60 so that's a win for me!

Mini Video Light

To continue the theme of being away from my desk, I do a lot of Zoom calls. Sometimes as many as 10 a week. When I'm at my desk I have my fancy lights, nice camera, and the whole shebang. That stuff helps me look (or at least feel) more professional. When I'm away from my office, I don't want to loose that. So I have a lovely little tripod and use my phone as my camera (it works suprisingly well!) and hook that up to my computer for my calls. Light is the sticking point. Sometimes I can use natural light, but that doesn't always work the best. Now I use this itty bitty mini video light! (affiliate link) It fits in my pocket (or a little pocket in my bag and lights me up so I don't look like I'm in a cave. It's a steal at under $20, and I can use it in the office for supplemental lighting as well.

Why Clean Content Matters More Than Ever

Keeping your content updated and clean is a way to show your audience (and potential clients) that you’re invested in providing value. When your portfolio, blog, or website is polished and current, you make it easier for people to trust you, hire you, and share your work.

Think of your content as your digital storefront. If someone walks by and sees outdated info, broken links, or services you no longer offer, they’re likely to move on. But when everything’s fresh, accurate, and easy to navigate, you invite people to stick around, explore, and connect with what you do best.

Next week, we’ll tackle how to find the topics your audience actually wants to read about (and how to make sure your ideas stay relevant). Until then, take a little time to polish what you’ve already built.
